Reclusive and often misguided designer Arfaq Hussain has no doubt had his fair share of highs and lows in his illustrious career. Arfaq Hussain's innovative and elaborate designs were first recognised by pop megastar Michael Jackson who not only purchased a complete collection of exclusive attire but commissioned further pieces of theatrical magic in the form of stage wear.
One jacket in particular (AC-7), developed purely for Michael Jackson, the 'king of pop', was another 'worlds first'. The air conditioned jacket kept the entertainer ice-cool during performances on his world tour and such ground breaking creations have seen Arfaq Hussain honoured and celebrated by the Guinness Book of World Records many times.
But as the world records came, a flaw in Arfaq Hussain's character brought with it impending downfall.
Never business minded, Arfaq Hussain relied on borrowing to design and develop his masterpieces; not one to compromise on any aspects of his work, the combination of heavy borrowing and lack of financial structure led to a threat of bankruptcy and a mountain of debts estimated at one time to have been in excess of $6m. A high profile fraud case followed and although Arfaq Hussain was exonerated in the end, he found himself with a four month prison sentence for a minor charge to which he pleaded guilty at the beginning of the trial.
14th February 2007 has seen the beginning of a new chapter in the career of the genius behind so many unique and groundbreaking creations; most recently, the most expensive perfume in the world, V1.
Following many proposals and negotiations with companies from Europe, The Middle East and The United States, Arfaq Hussain has signed an exclusive and lucrative deal which will give him total creative control - an aspect of the deal that was not up for negotiation. This contract will safeguard his vast catalogue of designs and intellectual rights as well as future creations under the company banner of HRH ARFAQ.
Arfaq Hussain is now free to concentrate purely on his unrivalled creations, leaving business management to a new team; they will develop and provide a strong business infrastructure ensuring this remarkable young man stays at the top of his game.
